On 22–23 July 2026, the National Contact Point for Euratom in Ukraine, with the support of the NURECABproject, organized an in-person training in Kyiv dedicated to technical and financial reporting in projects funded under the Euratom Research and Training Programme and the Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

The event brought together 14 representatives of research institutions, higher education institutions, and private companies involved in the implementation of Euratom projects.

The main training programme was delivered by Sergii Pugach, Coordinator of the National Contact Point for Euratom in Ukraine (Fission). During the training, participants became familiar with the latest European Commission requirements for technical and financial reporting, received practical recommendations on organizing the reporting process, and learned about the most common mistakes to avoid when implementing international research projects.

The programme of the first day consisted of two thematic sessions. The first session focused on technical reporting. Participants received a detailed overview of the structure of the Technical Report, the preparation of Part A through the European Commission Funding & Tenders Portal, and Part B, which contains the description of the work carried out, the results achieved, and the project’s impact. Particular attention was paid to the requirements for reporting on work package implementation, risk management, presentation of project results, dissemination and communication activities, as well as the implementation of Open Science principles.

The second session of the first day was devoted to financial reporting. Serhii Puhach provided a detailed explanation of the requirements for declaring costs in Euratom and Horizon Europe projects, including eligible and ineligible costs, personnel costs, travel costs, equipment costs, and other direct costs. The session also covered personnel cost calculations, the preparation and submission of Financial Statements (Form C) through the European Commission Funding & Tenders Portal, as well as the key requirements for supporting financial documentation.

The second day of the training was entirely practice-oriented and focused on hands-on exercises. Working individually and in groups, participants practiced preparing financial reports using practical case studies, performed calculations for different categories of costs, analysed typical reporting scenarios, and learned how to prepare financial documentation in accordance with European Commission requirements.

As part of the practical programme, Vitaliy Zhurenko, Member of the National Contact Point for Euratom in Ukraine (Fission), delivered a presentation on the specific aspects of declaring equipment costs. During his presentation, participants learned about the requirements for documenting equipment use, the rules for calculating equipment depreciation, maintaining equipment usage logs, and determining the proportion of equipment use attributable to a project. The recommendations were subsequently reinforced through practical exercises on calculating equipment costs in accordance with the Horizon Europe rules.

The combination of theoretical sessions and practical exercises enabled participants not only to deepen their understanding of technical and financial reporting requirements but also to gain practical experience in applying European Commission rules during the implementation of projects funded under the Euratom Research and Training Programme and the Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. The knowledge and practical skills acquired during the training will contribute to the preparation of high-quality project reports and the successful implementation of international research and innovation projects.

The training was organized within the framework of the NURECAB project, which aims to strengthen Ukraine’s research and educational capacity in the nuclear field, foster cooperation between Ukrainian and European research institutions, and enhance the participation of Ukrainian organizations in the Euratom Research and Training Programme.
