From 25 August to 6 September 2025, a training course was held for lecturers from Ukrainian universities providing nuclear education. The training focused on the use of the ASKO electronic learning system, developed by the Ukrainian company ASOT for the needs of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”.

The event took place within the framework of the international project NURECAB (Nuclear Research and Education Capacity Building – EU–Ukraine Cooperation), which aims to strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union in the field of nuclear science and education, improve academic programmes, and train a new generation of specialists for the nuclear sector.

One of the key objectives of the project is to bridge the gap between the knowledge provided by Ukrainian higher education institutions in nuclear disciplines and the practical needs of the national nuclear industry. The ASKO training was specifically designed to address this task.

The main goal of the training was to integrate the ASKO system into the educational process of Ukrainian universities in order to ensure that students acquire the competencies required by the modern nuclear industry. During the course, participants became familiar with the structure and functional capabilities of the system and gained access to the first training modules developed by Energoatom experts – “Safety Procedures” and “General Knowledge”.

The training brought together 20 lecturers from six universities, all members of the NURECAB consortium: V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”, Odesa Polytechnic National University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and, by agreement between the NURECAB consortium and the developer ASOT, lecturers from Lviv Polytechnic National University.

Among the participants were representatives of Odesa Polytechnic National University, who are involved in implementing the Euratom Research and Training Programme (2023–2025) project “Nuclear Research and Education Capacity Building – EU–Ukraine Cooperation” (NURECAB). The university’s specialists successfully completed the advanced training programme on the use of the ASKO distance learning system and received official certificates.

The training was organised to enhance digital skills for education, retraining, and professional development of personnel engaged in the implementation of the international project. The course programme covered the structure of the ASKO system, development of multimedia training courses and examination question banks, creation of training plans, assessment methodologies, as well as practical work with test sets, assignments, reports, and the instructor’s dashboard.

The acquired knowledge will help participants effectively implement distance learning, improve the quality of the educational process, and adapt it to the current needs of the nuclear industry. This initiative will contribute to the further digitalisation of the educational environment at Ukrainian universities, strengthen the human resources potential of the NURECAB project participants, and expand opportunities for integrating Ukrainian nuclear education into the European research and education area.

The NURECAB project (GA#101173510) is implemented with the support of the European Union under the Euratom Research and Training Programme (HORIZON EUROPE).
