On 18 March 2026, an informational and practical training session dedicated to the opportunities for Ukrainian research teams to participate in the Euratom Programme was held. The event was organized to raise awareness among Ukrainian researchers about international scientific cooperation instruments and to prepare them for upcoming Euratom calls.
The training was delivered by Sergii Pugach, Head of the National Contact Point for Euratom (nuclear fission) and a representative of the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology.” The event took place at the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The main objective of the event was to familiarize participants with the Euratom Programme and the Euratom Work Programme for 2026–2027, the official announcement of which is expected in April 2026. Participants also received information on ongoing Euratom partnership projects and other international initiatives, as well as scientific, innovation, and educational platforms that can serve as tools for integration into the European Research Area and for partner search. Particular attention was paid to discussing practical steps that can facilitate the development of scientific cooperation of Ukrainian teams within the programme.
During the training, Sergii Pugach provided a detailed overview of the activities of the National Contact Point for Euratom in Ukraine in the areas of fission and fusion, presented the overall structure of the Euratom Programme, and outlined the results of Ukraine’s participation in the 2021–2025 Work Programmes, as well as the key priorities of the upcoming 2026–2027 Work Programme.

The speaker also presented statistical data on the activities of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which hosted the training, highlighting its potential for further development of international scientific cooperation.
A significant part of the presentation was devoted to a detailed overview of the Euratom Programme, its budget, thematic areas, and participation opportunities for Ukrainian institutions, as well as new approaches to project funding, in particular the transition to the Lump Sum mechanism.
In addition, participants received practical recommendations on how to identify relevant Euratom calls, build international consortia, and establish partnerships. The training also featured the opportunities offered by the NURECAB mobility programme.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, during which participants had the opportunity to discuss practical aspects of proposal preparation, partner search, and effective participation in international research initiatives.

The training became an important step in disseminating information about the Euratom Programme among the Ukrainian scientific community and in providing practical guidance on engaging in European research programmes and strengthening international cooperation in the nuclear field.
