Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv – one of the largest universities of Ukraine, the national center of science and culture, one of the oldest universities in the country. According to the university rankings for 2020 it took 1st place for 2020. It is the largest university in terms of the number of students and specialties. Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is a multi-disciplinary research and education complex, which includes 14 faculties, 8 institutes, 1 department, 2 colleges and 21 divisions.

The Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Radiophysics, Electronics and Computer Systems are units of the University that conduct fundamental training of specialists in the field of physics.

The Department of Nuclear Physics and High Energies of the Faculty of Physics and the Department of Electronics of the Faculty of Radiophysics train specialists in areas of research related to the Evratom Programme, i.e. areas of fission and fusion.

The department is known for its work in the field of fast neutron physics, accelerator equipment, nuclear spectroscopy, nuclear electronics, applied nuclear physics, nuclear power engineering, and high-energy physics. Labs on special courses are performed both in training laboratories and directly in scientific groups. Bachelor’s and master’s theses are carried out both at the department and in leading world-renowned scientific centers.

The department has closest scientific relationships with the following scientific institutions: European Center for Nuclear Research CERN (Switzerland), Institute for Nuclear Research GSI (Germany), Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) (USA), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) (Austria) , Institute of Nuclear Research in Ljubljana (Slovenia), Institute of Nuclear Research of NASU (Kyiv), Debrecen University (Hungary) and others.

Students and graduate students of the department have the opportunity to specialize in the following areas: experimental nuclear physics, nuclear energy, high-energy physics, accelerator physics, heavy ion physics, medical physics (use of nuclear-physical methods for the treatment of oncological diseases).
