The Ukrainian Nuclear Society (UkrNS) is the largest nuclear professional non-profit public organization of Ukraine, which unites more than 3,000 experts in the field of nuclear energy, nuclear industry, nuclear science and technology. It was established in 1993 to support and develop nuclear energy in Ukraine.

As a part of UkrNS, 11 separate units that were created on the basis of leading enterprises and institutions of the nuclear industrial complex of Ukraine.

Among them are nuclear power plants, service divisions, organizations of scientific and technical support, research institutes, industrial associations and enterprises of the uranium mining industry of Ukraine. Thanks to the active work and initiatives of separate divisions, dozens of events are held annually to promote the popularization of nuclear energy and the development of the Ukrainian nuclear industry.

The main goal of UkrNS

The main goal of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society is to unite the efforts of scientists, specialists, teachers, students, schoolchildren who work or study in the field of nuclear energy, nuclear research and related fields for the dissemination of scientific knowledge, the combination of intellectual and industrial forces, and the comprehensive solution of urgent tasks the development of nuclear science, technology and technologies based on the use of nuclear energy, the formation of objective public opinion and people’s trust in the nuclear industry, as well as for the protection of the rights and freedoms of the Society’s members, the satisfaction and development of their social, creative, scientific and professional interests .

The main areas of activity

  • The Society actively cooperates with authorities, specialized enterprises and organizations, the media and journalists, prepares materials and analytical reports on prospects for the development of nuclear energy. UkrNS also takes a proactive stance in information and educational activities – it holds career guidance events, all-Ukrainian calls, scientific and practical conferences, attracting young professionals, schoolchildren and students, and makes efforts to improve the quality of technical education in Ukraine. The main objective of this activity is to maintain a constant demand for technical specialties and create all conditions for as many young people as possible to be interested in nuclear energy as a future profession in their lives.
  • Active work is carried out to support nuclear science and new promising projects related to both the development of nuclear energy and fundamental nuclear research. That is why every year the Society holds several scientific conferences, including the international conferences “Prospects for Introduction of Innovations in Nuclear Energy”, “Problems of Modern Nuclear Energy” and a number of others, which are held with support and direct participation of partners – the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Institute of Nuclear Research of NASU, Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology.
  • An important component of the Society’s work is also work with the public and support of our separate units in Ukraine. The Society’s units in different regions of Ukraine annually hold dozens of various events aimed at popularizing nuclear energy and protecting the interests of UkrNS members.

In its activities, the Society pays great attention to the culture of safety at the enterprises of the industry, works with youth, the public, and mass media, solves environmental problems of nuclear energy, actively carries out information and educational, career guidance and publishing activities, ensures the collection, analysis and dissemination of relevant and reliable information for the purpose of solving current problems of the nuclear energy complex of Ukraine.

Representatives of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society are actively cooperating with the authorities state authorities, are part of the Public Councils under the Ministry of Energy, State Nuclear Regulation and others. UkrNS establishes and develops cooperation with other organizations, institutions of the nuclear industry and leading specialized Ukrainian and foreign universities.

International activity

During the years of activity of the Society, cooperation was established with specialized public and foreign organizations. Cooperation in many directions is actively developing with the American (ANS) and European (ENS) nuclear societies, nuclear societies of the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Belgium, Poland, Hungary and many other countries.
