In October 2026, the Fourth IFMIF-DONES Users Workshop dedicated to current research in fusion energy and materials science will take place in Madrid.
The workshop will be held in person on 13–15 October 2026 at CIEMAT and is jointly organized by esDONES and CIEMAT.
The IFMIF-DONES programme is aimed at testing and qualifying materials required for the construction of future fusion power reactors. The workshop will serve as a platform for discussing key DONES research activities, refining the experimental programme, and strengthening the international DONES user community.
Particular attention will be given to the proposal and discussion of key experiments that could benefit from the already proposed extensions to the DONES baseline facility.
Main scientific topics of the workshop:
- Qualification of materials for the fusion programme, DEMO and fusion power plant
- Tritium breeding technologies: validation at DONES
- Studies of functional materials and other fusion technologies
- Experiments for benchmarking of computational materials science
- Nuclear physics: TOF-DONES facility and other experiment
- Industrial neutron irradiations and societal applications
- Life sciences and medical applications
- Experiments during the commissioning phase of DONES
- Discussion of the DONES experimental programme proposal
- Next steps for the DONES users community and selection of the Users Committee members
Important dates:
- Abstract submission deadline — 15 June 2026;
- Notification of accepted presentations — by 30 June 2026;
- Registration opens — 1 June 2026;
- Early registration and payment deadline — 30 September 2026.
