The European School on Nuclear Materials (ESNMS), established in 2020 within the Joint Programme on Nuclear Materials, has announced the launch of its fourth training session. The event will take place on 29 March – 4 April 2026 at the Institut d’Etudes Scientifiques (IESC) in Cargèse, Corsica, France.

ESNMS 2026 will once again bring together Europe’s leading scientists and early-career researchers in the field of nuclear energy materials science. The school’s programme will cover the current state of research and technologies, including multiscale modelling — from advanced electronic-structure calculation methods to continuum models — as well as state-of-the-art experimental approaches to studying materials. All types of nuclear materials will be in focus: structural (metallic and ceramic), functional, and fuel materials.

The lectures will be delivered by renowned European experts at the forefront of nuclear materials research. This will provide participants with a comprehensive set of tools and an in-depth understanding of key processes essential for building a successful scientific career in nuclear materials science.

The school is organised by the Energy Division of CEA (France) and the Politecnico di Milano (Italy). ESNMS 2026 is held as part of the EU-co-funded CONNECT-NM partnership, aimed at advancing research in the field of nuclear materials.

The technical programme will include lectures on materials, methods, and research techniques, as well as practical case studies addressing current challenges in nuclear materials science. Students will work on case studies in small groups under the guidance of lecturers and will present the outcomes of their work to their peers.
