II International Scientific and Technical Conference Named after V.M. Voevodin
“Challenges of Modern Nuclear Energy”
On 16 April 2025, the II International Scientific and Technical Conference named after V.M. Voevodin “Challenges of Modern Nuclear Energy” officially opened at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
The opening ceremony featured greetings from the organisers and distinguished guests, including:
- Stefano Monti – European Nuclear Society
- Volodymyr Kholosha – Ukrainian Nuclear Society
- Anton Panteleimonov – V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University
- Mykola Azarenkov – National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology”
The plenary panel focused on completing Units 3 and 4 of the Khmelnytskyi NPP, discussing the project’s strategic significance, technical challenges, and the role of scientific and technical support.
Section talks covered:
- materials science and new technologies for fuel assemblies and reactor pressure-vessel steels;
- radiation protection and environmental impact forecasting;
- public communication and nuclear safety;
- Ukraine’s participation in the Euratom Programme;
- cybersecurity and technology development for automated control systems;
- blockchain applications for supply-chain management in the nuclear sector.
Serhii Puhach, Euratom NCP Coordinator for Fission in Ukraine, gave a presentation on the Euratom Programme, Ukraine’s participation in the Programme, and preparations for the upcoming Euratom Work Programme for 2026–2027, with calls expected to be announced in spring 2026.

Yurii Kovtun, Euratom NCP Coordinator for Fusion in Ukraine, spoke in the “Fusion Challenges” session about Ukraine’s research within the EUROfusion project.
