The 21st International Conference on Plasma-Facing Materials and Components for Fusion Applications (PFMC-21) will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 10 to 14 May 2027.

PFMC-21 is a leading international forum dedicated to the latest advances in plasma-facing materials and components for fusion energy systems. The conference will bring together researchers, engineers, and industry experts to discuss the performance and lifetime of plasma-facing materials, their resistance to extreme heat and particle loads, thermomechanical properties, irradiation effects caused by fusion neutrons, and other key aspects of plasma–material interactions in fusion reactors.

Conference topics include:

  • Tungsten, tungsten alloys, and advanced steels;
  • Low-Z materials and liquid materials;
  • Erosion, re-deposition, material mixing, and dust formation;
  • Fuel retention and removal;
  • Materials under extreme thermal and particle loads;
  • Technology and qualification of plasma-facing components;
  • Neutron effects in plasma-facing materials;
  • Fusion devices and edge plasma physics;
  • Boronization and wall conditioning techniques.

Important dates:

  • Abstract submission opens: 1 October 2026;
  • Abstract submission deadline: 10 January 2027;
  • Notification of acceptance: 26 February 2027;
  • Early registration deadline: 19 March 2027;
  • Registration deadline: 30 April 2027;
  • Full paper submission deadline: 25 June 2027.

Researchers, engineers, and students working in plasma physics, materials science, and fusion technologies are encouraged to participate in PFMC-21 and present their latest research findings to the international fusion community.
