June 2025 was a vibrant month for the European fusion research community. FuseNet recaps the main updates, shares new opportunities, and announces upcoming events, including the PhD Event 2025, the European Teacher Day, the Nuclear Science & Technology School, and several other initiatives.

The FuseNet Association was established in 2010 as the European platform for coordinating education in the field of fusion energy. FuseNet brings together academic institutions, educators, and students from across Europe, supporting the mobility of young researchers and fostering stronger connections between academia and industry. The organization is rooted in the belief that today’s students will become the engineers and scientists of tomorrow, driving forward clean energy solutions.

FuseNet PhD Event 2025 – Limited Places Remaining!
From 4 to 6 November 2025, the traditional gathering of PhD students in fusion will take place in France, co-organized by ITER and FuseNet. Over 90% of places are already filled – so don’t delay!
The programme includes networking with researchers and fellow students from across Europe, exchanging ideas and experiences, and building valuable professional connections.
All PhD students interested in fusion are invited to participate and stay updated via the FuseNet website and social media.

European Teacher Day – 10 October 2025
FuseNet will host its sixth annual event for teachers who work in or are interested in fusion energy education. The 2025 European Teacher Day will take place on 10 October. National sessions are currently being prepared across several countries, and the overarching European programme is being finalised.
Institutions interested in organizing regional sessions are encouraged to get involved.
As in previous years, Ukraine will co-organize the event and hold its own national session. V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the Euratom National Contact Point in Ukraine will host the morning session, with registration opening in August.

Participation in the F4E Round Table in Barcelona
On 12–13 June, FuseNet took part in the “Fusion for Energy” round table in Barcelona. The event brought together key stakeholders to discuss the EU’s contribution to the ITER project and its broader impact on the economy, society, and innovation.
FuseNet’s Executive Director Dario Cruz joined the panel discussion “Investing in Technologies and Skills for Fusion,” alongside representatives from the European Commission, EUROfusion, CERN, Ghent University, and the Clean Air Task Force.

Young Fusion Researchers’ Conference in Spain
On 19 June, Madrid hosted the 3rd Young Fusion Researchers Conference, organized by CDTI and UNED. The event brought together school pupils, university students, and representatives from research institutions and companies working in the fusion sector.
Dario Cruz presented FuseNet’s student support programmes during the panel “Opportunities in Science and Industry for Young Researchers.” Other speakers shared their experiences and insights into career paths in fusion.

Nuclear Science & Technology School – Leeds, September 2025
From 16 to 18 September 2025, the University of Leeds (UK) will host the Nuclear Science & Technology School. The programme features lectures, career presentations, and lab tours on topics such as nuclear reactors, the fuel cycle, decommissioning, fusion, nuclear medicine, safety, and more.
Participation is free of charge.
Bachelor’s and Master’s students are encouraged to apply.
