In 2024, as part of the NURECAB project and its Work Package №4, “Capacity building of youth,” a series of events was held to provide career guidance for school students and promote nuclear education. Representatives of the project’s participating universities contributed to organizing meetings, excursions, and lectures that helped prospective students explore educational and career opportunities in nuclear energy.

  • On October 8, 2024, the Department of Nuclear Physics and High Energy Physics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv hosted 47 students from grades 9–11 of Lyceum №104 named after O. Olzhych (Obolonskyi district, Kyiv), and on December 10, 4 students from the Optical-Mechanical College of the same university. During the introductory tour, faculty members and senior students presented laboratory equipment used in nuclear physics, radiation monitoring, and nuclear energy. Participants learned about the principles of modern detectors and measurement systems and their role in scientific research. Special attention was given to the international NURECAB project, which supports the development of educational programs in nuclear energy. Future students received valuable information about study opportunities, internships, and career prospects.
  • On November 29, 2024, representatives of Odesa Polytechnic, National Technical University of Ukraine «Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute», and Lviv Polytechnic National University met with 60 prospective students in the city of Varash, a satellite town of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant. The event aimed to introduce students to energy-related educational programs and the opportunities offered by tripartite agreements with the Rivne NPP.
These agreements provide high-quality education, hands-on training, and employment prospects, which is especially relevant given the expansion of energy capacities and the need to renew the workforce in the sector. Prospective students actively inquired about admission conditions, the specifics of academic programs, and career opportunities in nuclear energy.
  • On December 9, 2024, the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” (NTU “KhPI”) hosted the popular science event “Physics in Cinema” with the support of the NURECAB project (Euratom, Horizon Europe, GA#101173510). Twelve students from schools in the Saltivskyi district of Kharkiv attended a lecture dedicated to physical phenomena in cinematography. Participants watched video excerpts from popular films and analyzed their scientific accuracy. The event was held in a friendly atmosphere, sparking keen interest among attendees. Engaging in discussions and debates confirmed the importance of such initiatives in promoting science among young people.

The conducted activities demonstrate that career guidance and the promotion of nuclear education are essential elements in attracting young people to scientific activities and developing the nuclear energy sector. Such initiatives contribute to shaping a new generation of highly qualified specialists and ensuring the sustainable development of the industry.

The events were supported by the NURECAB project (Euratom, Horizon Europe, GA#101173510).
